Long-term care facilities have a legal responsibility to assist residents in exercising their right to vote. Such assistance often includes helping them to register to vote, to obtain an absentee or mail-in ballot, to get to the polls or to fill out and return ballots. Very few operators are following the law, especially since the pandemic. The Gray Panthers are contacting the owners of these facilities and demanding that they either supply mail-in ballots or drive residents to the polls. We are also contacting elected municipal, county, and state elected officials to put pressure on the operators to follow election laws. We then ensure that the City Clerks in both the city and county monitor facility compliance. Support the Gray Panthers in this fight against nursing home voter suppression!
